Guerilla Yoga, Twin Cities; unroll your mat, donate what you can, open your heart, and breathe.
What is Guerilla Yoga?
Guerilla Yoga was founded on two basic principles, the first, that anyone should be able to practice yoga as part of a kula (community) regardless of financial constraints, and the second, that yoga asana can be practiced almost anywhere, by anyone. Beginning with these two principles in mind, Guerilla Yoga instructors have identified spaces in the Twin Cities that are appropriate for asana practice, but that have very low rental costs. This "no-frills" approach allows us to teach yoga classes that are available to anyone who wants to practice, regardless of ability to pay. While the suggested donation is $10 per class, as a Guerilla Yogi, you are encouraged to practice with us for a donation in any amount (including nothing), depending on what's appropriate for your budget. New yogis, including those who want to begin practicing for the first time, are always welcome in our kula.

What do I need to bring?
Because we rent spaces from other organizations to keep costs low, Guerilla Yoga doesn't have a supply of yoga materials; Guerilla Yogis need to bring their own mat (required) and any optional props you will want to use (blocks, towels, straps, etc.) Wear comfortable workout clothes, but don't feel obligated to wear "yoga clothes"; come as you are. For a yoga mat, nothing fancy is needed. A basic yoga mat should cost about $20; you can pick one up at Target or even at some Whole Foods stores, or you can order one online.

Meet our instructors
Sarah Baumert, Guerilla Yoga instructor Sarah Baumert is a dancer and yoga teacher based out of the Twin Cities. She recieved her yoga certification through the Om Yoga Center in New York City in 2006 and has been teaching vinyasa yoga ever since. Sarah's teaching is informed by her love of movement and a precise alignment of the body. Her class combines a physically challenging practice combined with meditation techniques of watching your mind and recognizing your habits. Her approach helps one integrate his/her individual practice into his/her larger life. Her dedication to mindfulness and curiosity of the body makes her teaching articulate, challenging, and compassionate. She currently performs with local choreographers Maggie Bergeron, Justin Jones, and Mathew Janzcewski and teaches yoga at the University of Minnesota and Zenon Dance School.

Jude Higdon, Guerilla Yoga instructor Jude Higdon, Ed.D., studied Anusara yoga for three years in Los Angeles before coming to the Twin Cities in 2007. His teachers include certified Anusara instructor Marc Holzman and Senior Certified Anusara instructor Ross Rayburn. Jude and his husband Chad have been practicing yoga together for almost five years. For Jude, the practice of yoga is about the exploration of the balance and inherent connection between strength and softness, expansion and contraction, connection to source and connection to self. He brings to his teaching the belief that yoga is not about the postures that you can put your body into, but rather about the ability to be present, strong, soft, and beautiful no matter what challenging positions your body may be in. Jude works at the University of Minnesota and holds degrees from Northwestern University, Harvard University, and the University of Southern California. Jude currently teaches yoga at the University of Minnesota, as well as Guerilla Yoga.
